Hearing For the First Time

Medical technology has made leaps and bounds  for people  who suffer from hearing loss. This particular story touched me so much I had to share it with all of you. For many years Dawn Keim had been dealing with sever hearing loss issues causing her to be unable to hear at all. She was offered to be a candidate for a cochlear implant, but the decision to have the surgery was difficult, not because of any complications, but rather because she had grown so accustom to being unable to hear she was afraid of the unfamiliarity. She had never been able to hear her 8-year-old son speak…until now.

Don’t judge me.

Medical technology has indeed helped people with hearing loss. I just wanted to point out that some people don’t feel that hearing loss is a problem. Not everyone with hearing loss “suffers” from it. Not everyone wants to utilize technology. Not everyone is qualified to use technology. The deaf community strongly opposes the use of the cochlear implant and the Hearing World trying to make them “more Hearing” instead of deaf. So you post intrigued me. It is a touching story. And I just wanted to let you know that there is to much more meaning attached to this topic that you may have not realized.
